Rom – com is a mixture of romance and comedy, this means that my production will need to include both of these, very frequently. Romance can be shown through relationships, this points to the fact that I will need at least one couple in the film, I say at least one because it is very usual in rom-coms to see one ideal couple (perhaps married) and one new couple. The new couple, generally goes through a rough patch and nearly part ways about half way through and yet, at the end, they are back together, stronger than ever, it happened in Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, it happened in Knocked Up with Seth Rogen and Katherine Reigl. It happens with almost every rom-com because the break up is seen as the sad part but when they get back together then the audience likes that, therefore, it is necarsary to have a break up involved. Comedy is the other half of a rom – com, thus comedy is a must have.
Here is a powerpoint presentation based on the history of rom-com and traits that I feel will influence my work.
